3 Civil War films

Join us at the Strand Theatre at 717 Clay Street in downtown Vicksburg for a weekend of Civil War related education and entertainment.

Friday, May 10 we have the episode of Ken Burns’ Civil War series which tells the story of Vicksburg’s role in the conflict. It starts a 7 PM and it’s free.

Saturday, May 11 the Old Courthouse Museum is sharing their copy of the Crisis, a silent film largely filmed here in Vicksburg in 1916. This will be a rare opportunity to see scenes of the town from the early part of the 20th Century. Tracy Gardner will be providing live musical accompaniment. The show starts at 7 PM.

Buster Keaton’s The General is considered one of the best films ever made, and inspired many action directors. Come see “the great stone face” as he tries to singlehandedly rescue his kidnapped train. And his sweetheart. The show rolls at 4 PM.
